Temperature Reminders
For grills without digital thermostats:
Smoke temperature is between 150 - 180 degrees F.
Medium temperature is between 250 - 325 degrees F.
High temperature is between 375 - 425 degrees F.
Trust that your Traeger will cook your food to perfection and avoid opening the lid too often, you typically lose 10 - 15 degrees when you do this.
Can I place my meat directly on the grill?
Yes!
Whether cooking a pork loin, turkey, chicken, stips of bacon etc. you can lay your meat directly on the grill.
When cooking small items (shrimp, diced veggies etc.) on the grill and you are worried about food falling through, a jerky screen comes in handy.
When baking cookies or biscuits, place them directly onto parchment paper on the grill - it will not light on fire.
How do I clean the Traeger?
Cover the large metal drip tray with tinfoil. When you go to clean the tray, it's as easy as throwing away the old tinfoil. When you do this, make sure that you tuck the end of the foil in and around the small lip of the tray.
The easiest way to clean your porcelain coated cooking grids is to take a piece of aluminum foil and rub it over and between the grids. This is best done when the grids are warm.
Spray your grease catch bucket with vegetable spray. Then, when you're ready to empty it, the drippings will more easily slide out.
Do not dump the sawdust from the end of a bag into the hopper. Excess sawdust will cause a drop in temperature.
